GEORGE TOWN, March 18 – Former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has criticised Chow Kon Yeow over land tax increases of up to 4,000 times, calling them “unjust and illogical.”
Citing examples like Kampung Sekolah and Bola-bola Low-Cost Flats, Lim argued the sudden hikes unfairly burden village and low-cost strata homeowners.
Lim urged Chow to review the current system and implement a fair, reasonable framework for all 370,000 land lot owners in Penang.
He stressed the need for officials to witness the financial impact on the ground, rather than relying solely on Land Office feedback, to restore public trust.
