KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 — Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Saturday, March 21, after the new moon of Syawal was not sighted nationwide.

The announcement was made by Syed Danial Syed Ahmad following observations at 29 locations.

Earlier, officers from Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia had to temporarily halt observations at Menara Kuala Lumpur due to heavy rain.

The declaration, made with the consent of the Malay Rulers, confirms the end of Ramadan fasting, which began on February 19.

In conjunction with the festive period, the government has introduced measures including toll discounts to ease travel.

As millions of Malaysians are expected to return to their hometowns for the celebrations.
