KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 — DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook has called on Lim Guan Eng and Chow Kon Yeow to end their public dispute over Penang’s revised quit rent rates, describing the situation as “unhealthy and inappropriate.”
Loke said the party leadership was concerned that internal disagreements were being aired publicly, stressing that such matters should be handled through established internal mechanisms to preserve party discipline and unity.
He noted that while Lim’s approach was inappropriate, Chow should still take the concerns seriously as they reflect public grievances. Loke said he would convene a meeting between both leaders to reach an amicable resolution.
The dispute stems from criticisms over sharp increases in quit rent, which the state government said were necessary after decades without revision. Loke emphasised that any review must be balanced and considerat.
Urging all party leaders to refocus on serving the public and avoid prolonged public disagreements.
