GEORGE TOWN, March 21 — The Penang government has officially renamed part of Jalan Tanjong Tokong Lama as Jalan Shaik Ibrahim to honour the contributions of the late Shaik Ibrahim to the local community.
The announcement was made by Zairil Khir Johari during a press conference in Tanjong Tokong. The decision followed a request from local residents and was approved by the State Geographic Names Committee in December 2025.
Before receiving final approval from the state executive council in February 2026. The road section measures about 124 metres and connects Jalan Tanjong Tokong Lama with Jalan Tanjong Tokong.
Shaik Ibrahim, a philanthropist from Tanjong Tokong, served as the fourth president of Persatuan Melayu Pulau Pinangfrom 1930 to 1934 and was recognised for his contributions to the community and local media.
