KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia will further strengthen its national cybersecurity agenda through strategic collaboration among key stakeholders to safeguard the nation’s security, stability and sovereignty amid rising global cyber threats.
Chairing the National Cyber Security Committee meeting yesterday, Anwar said discussions focused on enhancing preparedness against increasingly complex digital risks and accelerating the establishment of the Cyber Security and Cryptology Development Centre (CSCDC).
The proposed CSCDC will consolidate the functions of the Malaysian Cryptology Technology and Management Centre and CyberSecurity Malaysia under a centralised structure placed within the Prime Minister’s Department and regulated by the National Cyber Security Agency and the National Security Council.
The meeting also agreed in principle to new policy directions for a Cyber Crime Bill, including measures to address misuse of artificial intelligence such as deepfakes, the spread of intimate images and provisions for computer data retention to support investigations.
