KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing said the government is studying targeted support measures for the tourism transport sector following rising diesel prices.
He has directed urgent consultations with the Ministry of Finance after receiving feedback from industry stakeholders on mounting cost pressures affecting operators that rely heavily on diesel.
Tiong warned that unchecked cost increases could affect inbound tourism and the wider tourism ecosystem.
He said any support introduced may include temporary, time-bound assistance under a “stabilise and upgrade” approach, while also encouraging long-term improvements such as better vehicle standards and service quality.
He urged industry players to continue engaging constructively with the government as preparations move forward for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
