KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — Lotus’s Malaysia has announced a proposed RM1.66 billion acquisition of The Food Purveyor Sdn Bhd, marking a major expansion into Malaysia’s premium grocery segment.

The deal involves full ownership of the company, which operates around 50 outlets under brands including Village Grocer, B.I.G., BSC Fine Foods, OTK, and The Food Merchant.

The acquisition, backed by parent company CP Axtra Public Company Limited, is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

The move will expand Lotus’s Malaysia’s footprint to over 120 outlets nationwide, combining its existing 70 stores with The Food Purveyor’s premium network.

The acquisition aims to strengthen market reach across diverse consumer segments while enhancing access to high-income urban areas.

Industry observers note the deal reflects ongoing consolidation in Malaysia’s retail sector.
