KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — More Malaysians chose to travel abroad during the recent Chinese New Year holidays, with over half of flight bookings made for international destinations, according to data from Trip.com Group.

Popular overseas cities included Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo, Guangzhou and Seoul, while Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Penang led domestic travel demand. The busiest departure dates fell on Feb 14 and 15.

With many travellers booking trips more than 60 days in advance, reflecting a shift towards earlier planning and longer getaways during the extended festive break. Malaysia also recorded a 33% year-on-year increase in inbound bookings for the period.

With Kuala Lumpur seeing double-digit growth and nearly half of visitors opting for five-star hotels. Among the most popular attractions for international tourists were the KL Hop-on Hop-off, PETRONAS Twin Towers and Langkawi SkyCab.

Highlighting strong interest in city exploration and family-friendly experiences nationwide.
