GEORGE TOWN, March 25 — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Penang has clarified that a viral video showing an individual filling RON95 petrol into a plastic container at a station in Bayan Lepas did not involve any wrongdoing.
Authorities launched an investigation following public complaints and confirmed that the individual was a fisherman holding a valid permit for controlled fuel purchases within the approved quota.
KPDN stressed that fuel purchases exceeding 20 litres into containers require a special permit under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, typically issued for agriculture and fisheries use.
The ministry warned that unauthorised purchases remain an offence and assured ongoing monitoring at petrol stations.
The public has been urged to avoid speculation and report suspicious activities through official KPDN channels.
