GEORGE TOWN, March 25 — Penang Institute hosted a public talk titled “Misogynist Rampage, Declining Rights, and Savage Violence in Global Antifeminist Backlash.”
Featuring Dr Azza Basarudin of California State University, Long Beach. Moderated by senior analyst Yeong Pey Jung.
The session examined the global rise of anti-gender movements and their impact on gender equality, LGBTQIA rights and democratic values.
Dr Azza highlighted how far-right politics, digital platforms and entrenched patriarchy fuel misogyny worldwide, citing examples from several countries.
She also pointed to feminist movements, including Pakistan’s Aurat March and youth activism in Malaysia, as signs of resilience and resistance.
