KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 – On World Wildlife Day, 3 March 2026, the Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) urged urgent action to safeguard Malaysia’s endangered medicinal plants.
This year’s theme, “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods,” highlights the critical role these species play in healthcare, cultural traditions, and economic security.
CAP warned that plants like Tongkat Ali, Kacip Fatimah, Yellow Vine, and Agarwood face severe threats from overharvesting, deforestation, and weak enforcement of conservation laws.
The association stressed that protecting medicinal plants is vital not only for biodiversity but also to preserve traditional knowledge, community livelihoods, and human well-being.
Calling for sustainable harvesting, cultivation programmes, and public awareness to ensure these natural treasures endure for future generations.
