KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 – Healthcare experts have urged stronger implementation of the “PD First” approach to treat end-stage kidney disease in Malaysia, as most patients still rely on haemodialysis.
Despite policy efforts, over 80% of patients remain on haemodialysis, raising concerns about long-term financial sustainability. At a recent roundtable, Malaysian and Thai nephrology experts discussed strategies to expand peritoneal dialysis access in both public and private healthcare sectors.
Participants highlighted the need for better incentives, stronger policy support and improved patient education to encourage wider adoption of peritoneal dialysis.
