PUTRAJAYA, March 28 — The government will maintain the subsidised RON95 petrol price at RM1.99 per litre to cushion Malaysians from rising global fuel costs, said Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said the move ensures Malaysia remains among countries with the lowest fuel prices, despite crude oil exceeding US$100 per barrel globally.
Saifuddin said the subsidy bill has surged to RM4 billion monthly, prompting a temporary quota adjustment from 300 litres to 200 litres starting April 1.
However, he noted nearly 90% of Malaysians use less than 200 litres monthly and will not be affected.
He urged higher-usage groups to adopt more sustainable habits while the government balances fiscal responsibility and public welfare.
