KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — The government is aiming to enforce a minimum age limit of 16 for social media users as early as June, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Platforms will be given time to implement measures preventing underage users from creating or maintaining accounts, as part of efforts to enhance online safety for minors.

Authorities, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, are exploring age verification methods in collaboration with major platforms.

Fahmi also highlighted that while artificial intelligence is advancing, it cannot fully replace journalists, stressing the need for media professionals to adapt by integrating AI into their work.
