KLANG, April 1 – A Sessions Court has ordered shoplot owner Choo Lee Chen to pay Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) RM26,146.70 for undercharged electricity following the discovery of a tampered meter at her Port Klang premises.

The utility company filed the suit in 2024 after inspections revealed illegal wiring bypassing the meter, allegedly linked to high electricity usage associated with Bitcoin mining activities.

Judge Noorhisham Jaafar ruled that Choo, as the registered consumer, remains liable under the Electricity Supply Act despite claiming the premises was rented out.

The court noted the tenant had vacated a year before the inspection and no action was taken against them.

The judge emphasised that contractual responsibility lies with the account holder unless properly transferred or terminated.
