KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — The government is considering extending work-from-home (WFH) arrangements to the media industrywith the Malaysian Media Council tasked to engage media companies and organisations for feedback.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the ministry’s priority is to safeguard the welfare of media personnel while ensuring operations remain effective under any new policy.
Fahmi added that input will also be gathered through the Department of Information before recommendations are submitted to the Cabinet for consideration.
The move follows Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement that WFH arrangements for the public sector and GLCs will begin April 15 to address the global energy crisis.
Authorities will assess the feasibility for media practitioners, balancing newsroom demands with flexibility as Malaysia works to reduce fuel consumption and maintain energy stability amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
