GEORGE TOWN, April 4 — Chow Kon Yeow visited the Segmental Box Girder (SBG) casting yard in Kulim, marking a key milestone in the Penang LRT Mutiara Line project.
The 38-acre facility, developed by SRS Consortium, will produce about 8,800 precast segments for the elevated viaduct linking Silicon Island to Komtar.
Chow expressed confidence in the project’s progress, noting that production is set to begin this month, with first deliveries expected by July or August.
He said the SBG method offers a modern, efficient approach that reduces on-site disruption and traffic impact. Installation will mainly take place at night to minimise congestion.
The facility, now nearly 90 per cent complete, is expected to produce up to 350 segments monthly, supporting steady progress towards the project’s targeted completion timeline.
