GEORGE TOWN, April 6 – Lim Guan Eng said a meeting with Chow Kon Yeow has led to significant reductions in Penang’s quit rent rates.
Residential and mixed-use properties will see rates cut by 78.5% to 70 sen per square metre in urban areas, and by 82% to 50 sen per square metre in rural areas.
Vacant land will be taxed under agricultural rates at RM25 per hectare. The discussions also covered rates for low-cost housing without strata titles.
And a nominal RM50 charge for schools, non-Muslim places of worship and charitable land, including traditional villages.
A 50% rebate for this year and improved appeal procedures were also agreed upon. Chee Yeeh Keen attended the meeting.
