BAYAN LEPAS, April 8 — A new offshore attraction, Forest Island, has been officially unveiled, marking a major milestone in the state’s tourism development. Founder Alvin Poh Hsien Yang described the project as a vision to create something truly different, not just another destination, but a memorable experience that visitors will return to.
The island blends open-sea surroundings with lifestyle, leisure, and social activities, catering to families, tourists, and corporate groups. A standout feature is the world’s first permanent open-sea pickleball court, officially recognised by Asia Records, positioning Penang on the regional map for innovative attractions.
Speaking at the launch, Penang EXCO for Tourism Wong Hon Wai highlighted that the project aligns with the state’s strategy to introduce unique, high-value tourism offerings. He noted that Forest Island has also received official licensing from Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, ensuring it meets national standards.
Designed as an offshore experience, the attraction includes boat access, glamping for up to 100 guests, and event spaces for weddings and proposals, supported by safety features such as lifeguards, AEDs, and trained staff. Alvin emphasised that the project is a collective effort involving co-founder Justin Khoo, director Joel Khoo Chin Yong, and a wider team of partners.
He called on Penangites to take pride and ownership, describing it as “a project by Penangites, for Penangites.” Looking ahead, Forest Island aims to expand its offerings and collaborations. With a vision to become a global tourism landmark. “From Penang, for the world — built by all of us,” he said.
