GEORGE TOWN, April 8 — The Penang government is planning a new state administrative centre and legislative assembly on Silicon Island as part of its long-term development strategy.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang Development Corporation has been tasked with assessing spatial and design requirements, with data collection already underway.
The proposed site spans about 2.8 hectares and will be developed under strict controls, with most existing offices remaining at Komtar.
Chow emphasised the project will follow a uniquely Penang model rather than replicating Putrajaya. Land is expected to be ready by 2028.
After which construction may begin, including plans to relocate the state legislative assembly as part of the new administrative hub.
