GEORGE TOWN, April 10 — The PLLACE Final Conference, held at the Penang Institute, brought together policymakers, researchers and industry players.
To unveil key findings on strengthening Penang’s creative economy. Officiated by Wong Hon Wai, the event marked the culmination of a British Academy-funded research project.
Highlighting the sector’s strengths in heritage-based practices while identifying gaps in innovation, entrepreneurship and ecosystem coordination.
The study emphasised the need for stronger policy support, talent development and stakeholder collaboration to unlock the sector’s full potential.
Using a Living Lab approach, the project engaged hundreds of participants through workshops and research activities.
Speakers, including Steven Sim, stressed the importance of integrating creativity into economic growth, positioning Penang as a competitive hub for culture, innovation and sustainable development.
