GEORGE TOWN, April 12 — Sundarajoo Somu officiated the launch of the Penang Green Hotel Excellence Program, aimed at strengthening sustainability practices within the hospitality sector.
Speaking at the event held at St. Giles Wembley Hotel, he highlighted the growing need for hotels to manage energy, water and resources efficiently as Penang continues to develop as a key tourism destination.
The programme focuses on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management and green procurement, aligning with the Penang2030 vision to encourage more hotels to adopt sustainable practices by 2030.
To drive early adoption, the first 20 hotels passing the audit will receive full fee waivers. The initiative also aims to reduce operational costs while meeting rising demand from environmentally conscious travellers.
