BATU UBAN, April 12 — The construction of the new Penang police contingent headquarters (IPK) near Jalan Sungai Dua has reached 37.5% completion, according to Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Sim Tze Tzin during a working visit.
The RM248.6 million project spans 18.74 acres and includes key facilities such as a 13-storey administration block with an auditorium. A 14-storey police quarters, and a three-storey transport branch building.
Additional structures include an armoury block, supply unit, K9 unit, multipurpose hall, officers’ mess and vehicle facilities, making it a comprehensive operational hub for the police force.
Also present were Penang police chief Azizee Ismail and representatives from Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang and Jabatan Kerja Raya.
The project is scheduled for completion on May 14, 2027, but is currently behind its targeted 43% progress, reflecting a 5.5% delay due to technical issues.
The development also includes upgrading Jalan Sungai Dua into a dual-lane road, along with improved street lighting and pedestrian walkways to enhance accessibility and reduce congestion.
