BATU KAWAN, April 13 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing between ViTrox College and UCSI University, alongside the launch of the ViTrox Innovation Lab, marking a major milestone in strengthening Malaysia’s engineering talent ecosystem.
He also revealed plans for additional land allocation to support ViTrox’s long-term expansion in Batu Kawan, reinforcing the state’s commitment to nurturing a world-class innovation hub. The collaboration introduces a Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering.
With Honours programme delivered within ViTrox’s industrial campus, creating a “living classroom” that integrates academic learning with real-world industry experience. Backed by a Work-Based Learning framework and a unique 3-Mentor Model.
The programme aims to produce industry-ready graduates equipped with technical expertise, professional skills, and adaptability. The first intake is expected in September 2026, with approvals from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency underway.
The launch of the RM60 million ViTrox Innovation Lab further strengthens this initiative, offering a cutting-edge environment equipped with advanced automation, robotics, AI systems, and inspection technologies. The facility will support both undergraduate training and postgraduate research.
Fostering collaboration between students, engineers, and industry experts. Leaders from both institutions emphasised that the partnership aligns with Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy, which targets the development of 60,000 skilled engineers by 2030.

Chow added that such collaborations are crucial in positioning Penang as a regional hub for innovation, ensuring sustainable economic growth driven by talent, technology, and strong industry-academic synergy.
