GEORGE TOWN, April 13 — The Penang government has reduced quit rent to a nominal RM50 per lot for non-Muslim houses of worship, cemeteries, charitable bodies, and non-profit organisations, in a move to ease financial burdens.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the revision is part of broader improvements to the state’s quit rent mechanism following concerns over rising land charges in 2026.
The adjustment significantly lowers costs for affected entities, with some properties previously charged hundreds of thousands of ringgit now paying just RM50.
Eligible organisations must apply through district land offices for verification, while those who have already paid higher rates may request refunds or credits.
The state said the initiative aims to ensure fairness, with assistance provided to organisations facing complex cases as part of ongoing efforts to reduce financial strain.
