PETALING JAYA, April 13 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) will formally notify the Dewan Rakyat Speaker that the position of opposition leader is now vacant.
Following developments involving Hamzah Zainudin. PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the coalition has tasked secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan with preparing the official letter for submission.
Ahmad Samsuri said the vacancy would take effect once the notification is submitted, adding that PN aims to appoint a new opposition leader before Parliament reconvenes in June.
While declining to confirm Hamzah’s resignation, he stressed that the coalition would proceed with formal procedures.
The position has drawn attention in recent weeks amid political developments, including Hamzah’s removal from Bersatu and speculation over his future within the coalition.
