GEORGE TOWN, April 14 — YB Jason H’ng Mooi Lye has announced a crackdown on the sale of syringe-based toys, warning that such products pose serious safety and health risks, especially to children.

The items, widely sold in night markets, retail outlets and online platforms, resemble medical devices and may expose users to risks such as infections, misuse, and accidental injuries.
Authorities stressed that these products fall under the Medical Device Act 2012 and should not be freely sold without proper registration and control.

Local councils, including Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), will intensify enforcement under existing laws.
Including the Local Government Act 1976. Actions may include seizure of goods, fines, and revocation of business licences for non-compliant traders.

Officials also warned that gel-based toy components may pose choking hazards to children. The state government has urged parents and traders to remain vigilant.
While daily inspections and monitoring will be carried out to ensure public safety and prevent the spread of such hazardous products.
