GEORGE TOWN, April 14 – Penang has secured planning approval for the Penang International Logistics Aeropark (PILA).
A strategic joint venture between Penang Development Corporation and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, aimed at strengthening the Northern Region’s logistics ecosystem.
Announced by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in George Town, the project will see the development of a new air cargo terminal to support Penang’s growing industrial sector.
Particularly semiconductor and electrical and electronics (E&E) industries. Groundworks and soil treatment are currently underway, with the first phase of the free commercial zone cargo warehouse expected to be completed and operational by 2029.
The full development is projected to handle up to 500,000 tonnes of cargo annually by 2050, with over two million square feet of warehouse space.
The initial phase alone is expected to support an additional 100,000 tonnes annually. The project aligns with Penang2030.
And the expansion of the Penang International Airport, with an official launch being planned and anticipated to be officiated by the Prime Minister.
