GEORGE TOWN, April 17 — The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported that Penang’s agriculture sector generated RM4.01 billion in income in 2023.
With the livestock subsector contributing the largest share at RM1.90 billion, followed by crops, aquaculture and fisheries.
The Agriculture Census 2024 also recorded 13,713 agricultural holdings across the state, with crops covering the largest planted area.
Seberang Perai Selatan emerged as the top contributor to overall agricultural income, driven mainly by livestock and aquaculture activities.
DOSM said the sector remains a key economic pillar for Penang, supported by modernisation efforts, digital data systems and ongoing government initiatives to boost productivity and farmer income.
