GEORGE TOWN, April 17 — Rashidi Zinol attended an engagement session on proposed amendments to the Protection of New Plant Varieties Act (Act 634), emphasising the importance of safeguarding innovation in agriculture.
The session was joined by Datuk Nor Sam Alwi from the Agriculture Department and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Rashidi said the amendments are crucial to strengthening intellectual property protection for plant varieties, aligning with current needs and international standards.
He noted that the move would boost confidence among researchers and industry players, while enhancing competitiveness in the agri-food sector and supporting sustainable agricultural development in Penang.
