PETALING JAYA, April 17 — The Malay Economic Action Council has urged the government to ensure the Madani Mart programme does not disadvantage traditional sundry shops.
Warning of potential impacts on small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The group called for Rahmah Sales initiatives to be extended to all retailers rather than limited to selected outlets.
MTEM proposed redirecting funds towards upgrading local shops through grants, faster wholesale access, and licence rebates to boost competitiveness.
It also urged broader industry consultation before expanding the initiative. Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh said Madani Mart operates on a licensing model.
