KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — Small daily changes by motorists could significantly reduce Malaysia’s fuel subsidy burden, particularly for RON95.

With the government subsidising about RM1.88 per litre and national consumption estimated at 50 to 60 million litres daily, subsidies reach up to RM113 million each day.

Experts suggest that saving just one litre per driver daily could cut costs by around RM18 million. Simple habits such as carpooling, using public transport, maintaining vehicles.

And driving smoothly can improve fuel efficiency. Walking or cycling short distances and planning trips more efficiently also help reduce consumption.

Even maintaining proper tyre pressure and removing excess weight can lower fuel use. While individual savings may seem small, collective efforts nationwide could ease fiscal pressure and support long-term sustainability.
