SEBERANG JAYA, April 20 — The Penang government has reinforced its disaster preparedness through the 2026 Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Hazmat simulation exercise held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seberang Jaya.
State Secretary Zulkifli Long said the annual drill ensures agencies remain ready to respond to high-risk incidents, particularly involving hazardous materials. He highlighted risks posed by gas pipelines near densely populated areas, stressing the need for strong coordination and rapid response.
A total of 256 personnel from 34 agencies, supported by 260 assets, participated in the exercise, including Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia, Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia, and Polis Diraja Malaysia.
Deputy Chief Minister I Mohamad Abdul Hamid said the simulation, which focused on a gas pipeline explosion scenario, aligns with Penang2030 goals and aims to enhance coordination, crisis response, and public safety awareness.
