BAYAN LEPAS, April 20 — Penang is set to welcome its first-ever direct charter flights from Poland, marking a major step in expanding its presence in the European tourism market.
A VIP familiarisation trip involving 41 delegates from Polish tour operator Rainbow Tours was held from April 17 to 20.
Aimed at strengthening partnerships and promoting the state as a key winter destination. The initiative supports a broader strategy to diversify tourist sources amid shifting global travel dynamics.
The weekly charter flights, scheduled from November 26, 2026 to March 27, 2027, are expected to bring thousands of European visitors to Penang.
Officials say the move will boost the local economy through increased demand in hospitality, transport, and small businesses.
A joint marketing campaign in Poland will further drive awareness, positioning Penang as a competitive and accessible Southeast Asian destination for winter travel.
