PETALING JAYA, April 20 — Nurul Izzah Anwar has been unanimously proposed by PKR Batu division as a potential candidate for the Batu parliamentary seat in the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16).
Division chief Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi said the motion was passed without objection during the annual general meeting.
With members maintaining the tradition of prioritising the division leader as candidate, unless party leadership decides otherwise.
Asheeq said the proposal reflects grassroots support for a reform-oriented leader with a clean image, noting Batu’s long-standing role in Malaysia’s reform movement.
The seat is currently held by P. Prabakaran, who won as an independent in 2018 before aligning with PKR and successfully defended it in GE15.
Nurul Izzah, daughter of Anwar Ibrahim, is seen as a strong alternative if party plans shift ahead of the elections.
