MELAKA, April 23 — Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh said there is no strong justification to postpone the Melaka state election, which is expected to be held this year in line with the state constitution.
He said the current state assembly term ends in December, meaning the election must be held by February 2027 at the latest.
Rauf, who has previously indicated that the election could take place within six months, said delaying the polls is unnecessary despite suggestions from some political leaders citing global uncertainties.
The proposal has drawn mixed reactions, but he maintained that preparations should proceed as scheduled according to constitutional requirements.
