GEORGE TOWN, April 23 — MUDA Pulau Pinang has expressed concern over the worsening financial position of Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang.
Urging immediate mitigation measures ahead of the 2027 budget. While acknowledging MBPP’s Budget Dialogue initiative.
The party highlighted a sharp deterioration from modest surpluses between 2020 and 2022 to significant deficits of RM87.8 million in 2023 and RM174.99 million in 2024.
With continued shortfalls projected through 2026. In a statement by Peter Chin, the party warned that persistent deficits could strain fiscal flexibility and impact public services.
MUDA proposed measures including a medium-term fiscal plan, stronger spending prioritisation, improved transparency through regular reporting.
And exploring sustainable revenue sources beyond assessment taxes.
