KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — Abdul Halim Aman has been appointed as the new chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, effective May 13.

With the consent of Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar. A former High Court judge, he brings nearly two decades of judicial experience, having served in courts across Kuantan, Johor Bahru and Shah Alam before retiring in 2023.

Holding a law degree from the University of Malaya and a Master of Laws from the University of Hull, Abdul Halim began his judicial career in 2005 as a Judicial Commissioner and was elevated to High Court judge in 2007.

His appointment signals a potential reset for MACC, though observers stress that restoring public trust will depend on transparency, independence and meaningful institutional reforms beyond leadership changes.
