BAYAN LEPAS, April 25 – Penang has officially launched the Penang Automation, Test and Equipment (ATE) Campus, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s semiconductor and advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
The project is designed to accelerate collaboration between local companies, multinational corporations, and industry partners to co-develop and deploy ATE solutions within a trusted production environment.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Penang hosts the country’s highest concentration of ATE firms, with over 20 local companies and more than 80 supporting automation and engineering players.
He noted that 19 Penang-based firms are listed on Bursa Malaysia, with a combined market capitalisation of about RM27 billion as of April 2026.
The initiative is expected to further boost localisation, technology transfer, and integration into global supply chains.
Between 2020 and 2025, Penang recorded RM25 billion in machinery and equipment investments, representing 40 per cent of Malaysia’s total.
The ATE Campus will be developed in two phases, including collaborative field labs and a future dedicated physical campus modelled after Eindhoven’s Brainport Industries Campus.
