PUTRAJAYA, April 27 — Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has urged Malaysians to stay alert but calm as global geopolitical tensions threaten to disrupt energy supplies and drive up costs.
He warned that if conflict affecting the Strait of Hormuzcontinues, Malaysia could face supply constraints, particularly as key routes support around 60% of the country’s downstream fuel needs.
He stressed that while “pain is coming” in the form of rising prices and possible shortages, the government is working to cushion the impact.
Through subsidies and transparent communication. Monthly subsidy commitments have surged from about RM700 million to RM6 billion, placing pressure on public finances.
Despite this, he said the government remains committed to safeguarding public welfare while preparing the nation to navigate potential economic shocks without panic or complacency.
