GEORGE TOWN, April 30 – Penang aims to expand its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure to 600 charging bays by 2030 as part of its push towards greener mobility, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
He noted that the state currently has a few hundred charging bays, with local councils and private operators gradually increasing installations across urban areas.
Chow said public buildings and shopping centres are already converting parking spaces into EV charging points, while residential developments face safety and technical considerations.
Speaking at the Penang Autoshow 2026, he highlighted that EV adoption is rising both locally and globally, supported by national targets for higher EV market share.
And charging infrastructure expansion, signalling a steady transition towards sustainable transport in Malaysia.
