GEORGE TOWN, May 2 — The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has urged the government to introduce comprehensive regulations to protect the public.
From harmful plastic additives such as phthalates and bisphenols, citing growing scientific evidence of widespread exposure in Malaysia.
CAP highlighted multiple studies showing the presence of these chemicals in toys, bottled water, food packaging, and thermal paper, with some samples exceeding international safety limits.
The group warned that chronic exposure may disrupt the endocrine system and affect long-term health, including child development and reproductive health.
It called for stronger enforcement, inclusion of these substances in national chemical monitoring systems, and broader public awareness to reduce health risks.
