KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 — Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has warned the public against producing or sharing provocative content related to race, religion and royalty (3R).
Saying strict action will be taken against those who violate the law. In a statement, the commission said it views seriously any misuse of online platforms or network services that could threaten social harmony.
It urged users to verify information before sharing to prevent misunderstandings, hostility, or public tension.
MCMC added it will work closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and other agencies to monitor and investigate such content.
Offenders may face action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries penalties of up to RM500,000 in fines, imprisonment of up to two years, or both.
The commission also warned that platform providers could face action if they fail to cooperate with authorities or take steps to curb misuse of their services.
