PUTRAJAYA, May 4 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government acknowledges ongoing cost-of-living pressures but stressed that assistance must be targeted and measured.

Noting that Malaysia cannot fully support all groups due to fiscal constraints and global economic uncertainty.

Speaking at the Prime Minister’s monthly assembly, Anwar said measures such as maintaining RON95 fuel subsidies and introducing targeted aid like the BUDI Madani initiative remain in place.

Though subsidy costs—estimated to reach billions monthly—continue to strain public finances. He added that the government will keep monitoring prices and refining policies.

While ensuring essential services like healthcare and hiring of medical staff are not affected by austerity measures.
