BUTTERWORTH, May 5 — A manufacturing company has been fined RM120,000 by the Butterworth Sessions Court after pleading guilty to failing to implement required engineering controls.

Against excessive workplace noise, resulting in two workers suffering permanent hearing damage. Judge Roslan Hamid ruled that the company breached Section 18B(2) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.

After it failed to install mandated noise control measures such as barriers at machinery operation areas, despite risk assessment recommendations.

The court heard that the negligence led to the confirmed cases of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) among two employees.

Authorities warned that employers must strictly comply with safety regulations, which carry penalties of up to RM500,000, imprisonment, or both.

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) said enforcement will continue to ensure safer workplace conditions nationwide.
