PERHENTIAN ISLANDS, May 5 — Tourism operators on the Perhentian Islands are urging the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to grant access to subsidised fuel schemes.
As operating costs soar by 50% to 70%. The Perhentian Island Tourism Operators Association said reliance on diesel and petrol generators has made businesses vulnerable to rising fuel prices.
Chairperson Rafizah Munir warned that continued cost pressures could force operators to raise prices or scale back operations, affecting livelihoods and competitiveness ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.
Industry players are calling for targeted support to sustain tourism growth and protect island communities.
