PUTRAJAYA, May 6 — The government has approved an RM200 per hectare advance payment under the Ploughing Incentive Special Aid to support paddy farmers across Malaysia.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative, endorsed at the National Economic Action Council meeting, is expected to benefit around 240,000 registered farmers.
With a total allocation of RM48 million. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the aid is intended to help farmers meet upfront costs for ploughing machinery and ensure planting activities continue without disruption.
He added that the government remains committed to easing rising cost pressures on the agriculture sector, including fuel and input expenses linked to global tensions.
The assistance complements earlier incentives increased to RM300 per hectare, while additional measures such as cloud seeding in northern states have also been intensified to support farmers affected by dry weather conditions.
