Meta Platforms is preparing to roll out a new paid tier for WhatsApp, with early testing of the “WhatsApp Plus” subscription now live in the Android beta version.

The feature, currently available to select users, signals Meta’s growing push toward subscription-based revenue across its platforms, following similar plans for Instagram and Facebook.

While still in the testing phase, the subscription is expected to expand to iOS, Mac, and other platforms in the near future.

WhatsApp Plus is priced at around US$2.99 per month and introduces a range of customisation and enhanced messaging features.

These include premium stickers, personalised themes, custom app icons, additional pinned chats, exclusive ringtones, and upgraded chat list options.

Although no official launch date has been confirmed, the beta rollout provides a preview of what users can expect when the service is widely released.

The move reflects Meta’s strategy to monetise its large user base by offering optional premium experiences while keeping the core messaging service free.
