KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Bank Negara Malaysia has maintained the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) at 2.75% following its latest Monetary Policy Committee meeting.
Citing continued economic resilience and stable domestic demand. The central bank said global growth remained steady in early 2026.
Supported by strong technology sector expansion and household spending. However, Bank Negara Malaysia warned that ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could pose risks to inflation.
And global growth through higher energy prices and supply chain disruptions. While Malaysia’s outlook remains supported by exports, investment and tourism.
The central bank said it will stay vigilant and adjust policy as needed to ensure price stability and sustainable economic growth.
