GEORGE TOWN, May 7 — Penang State Executive Councillor (EXCO) for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Wong Hon Wai hosted the inaugural “Penang Running Clubs Dialogue” at The Founders Hutton.
Marking the first direct engagement between the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2026 (PBIM) and local running clubs in decades.
More than 20 clubs and over 100 participants attended the session, which focused on improving race organisation, strengthening collaboration and promoting Penang’s growing running culture.
Wong said the initiative supports PBIM’s long-term goal of positioning Penang as a leading sports tourism and international running destination.
Wong also announced that PBIM 2026 has surpassed 16,000 registrations, exceeding expectations, with slots expected to close soon.
This year’s marathon has received recognition under the Abbott World Marathon Majors framework alongside certification from Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.
Making it a double-certified event. Organisers have enhanced safety measures, including expanded medical support through collaboration with IHH Healthcare Berhad and additional water stations.
The full marathon will begin at 1.30am and the half marathon at 3.30am to reduce heat-related risks.
